Waiting for radishes to flower.

pictures of radishes getting old but with no flowers

We let a few of them grow and grow and hope one day they will flower. The bulbs are getting so big and ugly, the stems are forming but where are the flowers? Radishes are not giving any hint at all. Then I remember about salmons. Born in the river upstream, mature downstream, but will make a long journey back to lay eggs. May be radishes want to fly home to the place they were born ,Sweden,  to bloom and produce seeds.

I not too sure if it is worthwhile to wait for much longer.

  2. Flowering is trigerred by the right daylength or photoperiod. Radishes are generally long-day plants. They've got to be exposed to long days(more than 12 hrs of light per day) for a certain number of days. Knowing that Malaysia is near the equator, that could be the problem. :)

haha... just like salmons going upstream jumping over waterfalls.

twelve hours is about the maximum daytime overhere, but the effective exposure would probably be half of that. If that is the case, i can only dream for radishes to bloom..

  5. So interesting to compare them to salmon, perhaps they could swim home? I would certainly leave a few to see what becomes of them, they may surprise you.

  6. Bangchik, since you have waited... must well just continue to wait... maybe also continue to feed the plant as regular as you have done earlier. Everyting remains and watch in hope for a flower or more :-D

  7. Those radishes are looking very healthy. I'm sure they will flower in no time. Interesting comparison between the radishes and salmon.

I hope it will bloom. i think they are about to give me a big surprise... by staying low and not hinting at all.

  9. They look real ugly to me. Please don't send them back, I'll send you some new seeds instead "lol" I think that you might have to wait a bit longer for them to bloom /gittan

To have gone this far, i might as well wait for the flower to appear. It depends on which will come first, the bulb rotting or the flower appearing..

  11. Bangchik, I think you need to made them think that their survival is threatened, only then they'll flower?
If not, gosh, how many months have u been waiting so far?

They are nice for salad or stir fried. Now is a race between bulb rotting and flowering.., which will hit the finishing line first.. ~bangchik
