Repositioning Basils

We have grown basil both in pots and on the ground before. Of course plants love such freedom  on ground where roots can spread as far as they wish searching for water, food and getting better anchorage. Pots offer clinical approach in gardening. Water and fertiliser will not be wasted and location can be adjusted to suit environmental and aesthetic needs. Some plants enjoy such pampered environment.  The bigger plants probably finds pots a little bit constricting. Now we are putting 3 basil on the ground, just two steps out of the back door. That should make kakdah very happy....

  2. Is the purplish flower basil, Thai basil? With this holiday season you can spend more time on your new garden now or are you still doing many travelling?

  3. We love basil, but unfortunately it is an annual for us and we'll have to wait until spring to start some anew.

Bangchik and Kakdah, we wish you a Merry Christmas filled with good health, joy and many blessings. Thank you for a wonderful 2010.

Thanks, same to you.... a bright new year, colourful. Basil will die after a year or so, but they leave lot of seedlings around them. I just scoop and put where ever I want them to grow to suit the setting of the garden. A very versatile plant indeed.

Potted plants need daily watering, but on the ground they tend to behave like in the wild, handling themselves well, and they dont really need that daily watering. Good luck to your vegetables.

  7. Like your post on Basil. I love basil as I continually put fresh smelling basil in my nightly cooking. I also have a vegetable garden but in Australia. I will however revisit your blog for further great information on the vegetable garden. Have a look at my blog at http://vegygardener.blogspot.com/ if you wish to see what I do in my patch. Cheers and all the best for Christmas. Steve the Vegygardener.

Thanks for the visit. Basil heighten many of Kakdah's dishes. And it is second to spinach on the ability to self-seed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family.
