Marigolds, payback time.

The days of peanuts are over when we pull them out.... On one nice weekend Kakdah served home made boiled peanuts [kacang rebus locally known]. ..... We didnt wait too long and had the empty space filled with marigolds. It is really a payback time for having lost lots of marigolds to snails the last month or so..... We are now drawing guns with snails.... no bullets but just purplish poison baits.

Fifteen marigolds. Three rows of green spinach. Two rows of red spinach. And a blooming celosia in the centre...

Our mulch, thin layer of dry grass

Green spinach,
just sprouting in the same bed.
They really need some thinning....

  1. I'm very fond of marigolds, which my mother always used to have in her garden. Happy blooming.

  2. I love marigolds, too. Good luck in your snail war! I had boiled peanuts once...wasn't sure if I liked them upon first taste. But, the more I ate, they became addicting...so good!

  3. Luckily We do not have many snails in our garden. it's the insects that need control.

The plant itself is beautiful... Judging by the number of marigolds planted , it is going quite a sight when they bloom in chorus....

We can win all... Marigolds are growing freely.. But I miss the snail trail on the sidewalk, i miss their wet looking body as they inch their way....

We are in a way recreating a new equilibrium we think is suitable.... Life without snails.

Janet Islander, you are not the only one addicted to peanuts... haha

  5. I've never tried boiled peanuts, we either have salted or dry roasted.
I have lots of French marigolds dotted around the allotment.

  6. It is good to use the empty space for either another crop or flowering plants.

I love dry roasted peanuts. Very addicting.... Someone was saying about, marigolds roots produce some pesticide chemicals... so lets see the overall effect of marigolds in gardens.

That is the first time, we put new plants immediately after pulling out the ealier ones. So peanut plants were replaced very quickly without giving the soil enough time to recuperate.... Or soil never know the word recuperation?.
