A rare harvest, chilies and papayas

Chilies are ripening. Papayas too. But papaya plant is too tall. I take out the five footer steps and climb to the top and pluck three papayas. Kakdah hold the steps steady, just in case ....... Kakdah has given a few of the chilies to the front neighbor and a papaya to our previous close neighbor that now has shifted to Bangi. The rest we eat bit by bit ... haha.

These chilies dont taste quite like those sold in the market. First, they are very crunchy. Second, they are very hot, almost like the little chilies or cili padi. We dont feed the plants with special recipe to make them crunchy or hot. I guess the pronounced taste come from the slightly prolonged dry spell... or may be because I treat them too well.... haha.

Hmmm. I dont really know why....

Precious Teak along the highway.

North-South highway runs through the country. Some ten years ago the highway authority [PLUS] began planting teak trees along the highway .... The leaves are fairly large, and when they blooms, it's quite a sight.

Now they are beginning to chop the trees down. I am sure, the furniture industry will be smiling...






Photos were taken from inside the moving car and therefore not too good. I wasnt speeding beyond the 110 km/hr legal limit .... haha...

Rambutan
is the name of the fruit.

These rambutans are really hairy.
Rambut means hair in Malay Language.
and the man is showing how climbing should be done.
Such an agile man ........ !

Flowers, pavement and a guy

A typical sight. Trees will bloom and in due time, flowers will drop. A lovely sight to some, but to the standard operating procedure of the town council, these beautiful but littering flowers has to be cleared everyday. They end up in bags ready to be thrown into garbage lorries ...

The scene was somewhere in Precint 9 Putrajaya. We visited the nearby clinic for a small check-up, and thought this element within the neighborhood that sometime would go unnoticed worth a post to share ......

Serenade of Senduduk

Senduduk's flower has no scent as sweet as roses. Even the color is pale. But once it opens exposing the yellow stigma, it lives up to the occasion and manage to attract the prince charming!

The prince charming is in the form of a beetle.

These beetles like to bore holes into dead wood. The holes, large enough for each to squeeze in become their nest. They lay eggs there. When we were kids, these beetles appeared as a must item, as exciting as fighting fish, little spiders, climbing up trees etc, etc..

The other day, as we were fluffing the soil, Kakdah stumbled upon a big brown larva as big as kakdah's big toe an inch under the soil surface. It just wriggled. It may open up as one of these beetles too, I think. Kakdah just left the larva alone.

Now three!!
Chives seem to like well drained soil.
And they need regular watering to stay upright!

We have been keeping chives for more than a year. Originally a giveaway plant by Kakdah's Mom. Chives just need water and a little bit of fertilizer to keep them green and healthy.
