White chili

The white chili
They never become green or red.

An attempt at growing white chili is quite interesting. We have been so used to growing ordinary little chili or cili padi which will eventually turn from green to red.

But these are different. They are white... or rather greenish white, and they will never turn green or red. Two plants in pots and two on vegetable bed. These are their first array of fruits. Just for fun, I looked for scientific name of chili. It says Capsicum annuum.

  4. Dear Bangchik, In Hungary, where I spend time in my apartment in Budapest, the white Capsicum is not uncommon. Indeed, they form an essential ingredient in much of the cooking. With tomatoes, the white chili is combined to make Lésco, which is absolutely delicious.

  9. First to know that a chilly won't turn into red.

It will never get old by then.

  10. Thanks friends for your visits and comments.

So, whether it is as hot as the green/red,... seems to be the most popular question in your comments. Some just know about white chili existence for the first time...

To begin with, white chili doesn't look commercial and attractive. Therefore we seldom find white chili at the market. Most are home grown and end up in the kitchen of gardeners.

As kids, I don't think I came across the white chili... only much later, when both of us visited nurseries, flower/vegetable plants show and pasar tani. It has been around for about 20 years thereabout in Malaysia.

How do I start planting these white chili?. I took a couple of ripe white chili at Mother in Law's garden, took out the seeds and germinated them here in Putrajaya.

It is just as hot as the little red chili or cili padi. This chili just wish to be different I think, refusing to show their true age by not turning to green and red. Women do use facelift and makeup to look good and "stay young"...(and men?)

    have a great weekend everyone.
    Cheers...,

  15. Haha, i love it when you posted chile instead of ornamentals. I remember the ornamental peppers with different colors, even violet as they ripen. We also have that white one.

  16. Andrea ... they remains chili even when the colour is white, purple or blue.. but they serve equally well as ornamental. ~bangchik

  20. Your introduction to fertigation and the clear explanation that follows has peaked my interest on the subject. I beleive that this is the way farming will go in the future. What are the costs involved in setting up fertigasi system for a 2 acres of chilli cultivation.

    1. i am so sorry for late reply. Unluckily, I stopped growing white chilli and due to frequent shifting of houses over the years, I lost the precious seeds.
