Ground Orchids
or Orkid Pasir

I thought buds exhibit the best colour, both exotic and exciting. But as flowers emerge, the exiting purple color become quite pale. Our ground orchids enjoy the shade of papaya plant.

Between the two, buds and flowers, I would choose buds as having the best display of colour. It is just a matter of choice, definitely never exactly the same as others, including Kakdah.

  2. There is a different genus of ground orchid called Bletilla. Here's a post about it on my blog from a couple of weeks ago: http://growerjim.blogspot.com/2010/02/bletilla-striata-chinese-ground-orchid.html
The open flowers keep a darker purple color.

  6. How utterly delicate and beautiful! Your photos present them so poetically. I do so love buds ... nearly as much as blooms.

  7. Each offers its own beauty, but yes I love the first picture the most.

Thanks friends, bloggers and gardeners for your visits and comments. They are perfect little ground orchids. They are so natural here, that growing is so easy. Because buds appear first, attraction starts there, the shining purple is so beautifully displayed.

Then the flowers appear once the buds thought they had enough of the limelight. The color that was so dense in buds had to be spread into bigger surface of flowers, thus the color turned out to be quite pale... Still retaining its authentic purple colour with a little shade of pink.

Some of you can really describe beauty in words when words like delicate and soft, gorgeous, perfect color are used to describe ground orchid flowers.

At least one of you described these are real beauty presented poetically. Ouuch... thats a new description of photographs. I thought, words are poetic, now pictures too!!

Yes, they definitely belong to the same family of Bletilla.

A person in trying to be fair, mentioned "each offers its own beauty". Yea, that's the way when beauty is handled descriptively, not being selective as what we used to do...

    have a great weekend.

  14. Green Iris > Thanks, purple is always sweet and royal. But the flower doesn't last as long as other normal orchids.
