Bitter gourds are growing steadily now. The weather is getting hot these few days. But the plants cope with the increasing temperature well. Few inches higher with more leaves, the plants should be ready to reach to the bamboo and climb up any time.

Hi Bangchik! I love this supporting structure - simple and light!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures, it will be nice to see them climbing. :)
ReplyDeleteBitter Gourd / "Peria Katak" - traditional take for various disease. People here take it for diabetes.
ReplyDeleteNot scientific prove yet, so if you take it better check for your sugar level regularly. ;)
The trellis is artistic, it seems so fragile though. Will it be able to contain all the vines? My vegie at dinner is bitter gourd just sauteed with onions, garlic, tomatoes and soy sauce. I love it with fried fish. May i have some of your harvest? haha, thanks. I dedicate my post today for my Malaysian blogfriends including you.

ReplyDeleteThe bamboo is very slender and light. Tucked behind a row of tall hibiscus, I think the frame will stand against the wind.

I think it will climb within a week.

You are right about the medicinal properties of bitter gourds against diabetes. It has been widely used. In fact many other plants, leaves or fruits with bitter taste has been used for diabetes.

ReplyDeleteThat trellis really is fragile. Experience with bitter gourds before, seems to appreciate that bitter gourd will not produce dense and heavy foliage. Not like winged bean which is a heavyweight to me... So far the trellis play along with the wind, and I imagine it will support the whole weight of the plants. Thanks to the dedication to Malaysian Bloggers.
