I love it when kids around our area come
and talk about these sunflowers during their play time.
They ask questions about the sun loving flowers,
and Kakdah dutifully handle most questions her way... haha.
Their favourite question is
why these sunflowers face the same direction
towards the pedestrian walkway.
Kakdah gets away
with her jovial remark,
"Ohhh..,they are greeting passersby.
Don't you realise that?"
These five sunflowers are quite a sight,
forming almost like a wall,
with broad very-green leaves,
and large happy flowers.

ReplyDeletehow lovely Bangchik - you and Kakdah might even be sowing some little seeds of interest in gardening as you both speak to those little ones. I think your sunflower wall must have all the passersby pausing for a few seconds as they pass your house.

ReplyDeleteIts always amusing when in France where they grow fields of sunflowers. All the heads turn the same way to face the sun and move around during the day as the sun does. The French name tourne soleil and Italian girasole both are such approriate names aren't they?

I consider growing sunflower a relatively easy thing to do. The germination has very high success rate. But due to lack of experience, our first attempt last year produced just one sunflower. The second generation sunflowers survive better. I hope it goes on that way through the generations.
Sunflowers are bright and forms the focal point. The cheerfulness of these sunflowers turn many heads as they stroll along the pedestrian walkway. Kids love them and get close to satisfy their curiosity. I hope the interest on plants builds on these young kids.
About flowers turning to follow sun's path, I did notice some variation in our plants. They don't really hold on to that habit as the flowers open up and sparkles with yellow colour. Our plants turn their heads before blooming. Once blooming is complete, they remain relatively fixed. Luckily the five, choose to face the pedestrian walkway as their fixed position..., it is a sweet welcoming gesture!!
Good lucks to those who are just starting. Lets yellow be the prominent colour soon in your garden.
