The fern ended up the large raintree, at the right side of our house. It was placed in position by tying up with steel wire. After almost six months, the fern manage to grow and cling to the tree and we had removed the wire.

We measure the overall height of this gigantic fern..... a whopping 6 feet from top to bottom!!
To us, the staghorn fern is still a 6 month old baby...

How marvellous - it is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI once worked in a garden (in England) that had a large heated glasshouse and we used to overwinter our stag's horn ferns inside and then tie them onto the trees in summer just as you describe. Of course, we had to cut them down in the autumn and return them to the greenhouse before the cold affected them.
I don't think ours could have been the same type as yours as I don't remember that large green disc at the base - but perhaps it is just the years passing that has made me forget that!
Johnson
Johnson, leaves start off as disc as you mentioned, then slowly grow up as upper leaves.....
DeleteAmazing and beautiful fern.
ReplyDeleteYes, this one is very spectacular....
DeleteYours is beautiful. I wonder what happens to mine. Do they die or live forever? (I mean in plant years).
ReplyDeleteFern will live forever......... Tanduk rusa can produce new growth around the main one...., so tanduk rusa wont die, unless we burn it or pour boiling hot water day after day...
DeleteThat is an amazing staghorn. Have seen other specimen, but this is super.
ReplyDeleteThis is very elaborate..........
Deletewe have a smaller version called an elkhorn on our tree. How did you "transplant" it? we have a few extra volunteers that I could move to other places.
ReplyDeleteTransplant by cutting off the new growth and tie it ona tree...... It will grow.
DeleteI was surprised when you said it is 6 feet tall! Taller than myself! I am an admirer only as I don't have the space (tree) for it.
ReplyDeleteNo need for tree........ It can hang on a pice of wood tied to the edge of roof...
DeleteA deer has climbed up a tree.
ReplyDeleteRainnie, it will not come down, will live and produce babies up there!!!!!
DeleteI love stories about plants and this is a beautiful story of a beautiful fern. I did not know these deerhorn ferns could grow so tall. We have them here as house plants in hanging pots, but that is nothing in comparison with those tall ones in the trees.
ReplyDeleteJanneka....... Up on a tree, is their natural habitat. They can reach 8 feet....
DeleteIt looks like the baby fern is happy with its new mother :)
ReplyDeleteUp on a big tree, staghorn fern couldn't ask for more...
DeletePokok besar menjanjikan habitat yang natural untuk pakis bertanduk itu . :)
ReplyDeletememang..., yang cantik sekali kalau tanduk rusa tumbuh dicelah dahan...
DeleteWhat an absolutely fascinating looking plant. and unbelievable that it took only 6 months to get that size. Obviously it likes the location you picked for it.
ReplyDeletewe took a part of the fern, it was already quite big then.... 6 months ago.
DeleteThat really awesome plant! I have seen them few time in the public park!
ReplyDeletewith tanduk rusa ferns on trees, public park will look very natural...
