Just wonder how ubi badak put purple all over its body
and twist its stem at will.

Since most of what you grow is for eating I'm guessing the Ubi Badak may be eaten raw like maybe with salads.

Ubi Badak has many purple pigmentation perhaps! hahahha... Very beautiful vine which can be kept as ornamental plant!

ReplyDeleteNice shots you have there Bangchik. If you will let them be mature enough for the whole year till they retire, you will notice they will produce some very small tubers like big marbles on the vines. These can be future seed materials. And they can be eaten too!

Yeap, being purplish is extremely beautiful... but the most unusual part is ubi badak essentially a vine with large tuber in the ground when it dry out.

A friend mentioned about ubi badak producing fruits before it dry out.. Can be eaten?.. that's fine.

About roselle, germinate them one seed in each pot. It is almost 100% success rate. I wonder why it is named after rhino. Probably Rhino's food in the wild. Or it is way to describe ubi as big as rhino...

Hi, I hope you doing fine there. Too common in kelantan, but very rare in the west coast... sure, I will keep posting.
Currently im doing my master regarding this plant..I have to do germplasm collection and also anatomical studies of this species. everyday I have to take care of this plant..and I do have abaout 75 collected accession of ubi badak..in Terengganu they called this ubi besar..but most people said the white flesh is favorable compared t the purple one.

I am not into the scientific elements, I just marvel at the plant, the colour, the climbing habit....its ability to handle weather changes.., and finally to see what ubi badak can offer as it bows to the light of days...
