Kakdah's hanging garden

a potted plant, hanging.

This is the most fascinating plant. The plant shoot a little stem outwards and soon after little plants appear and roots develop. I have been taking the baby plants out and put them in new pots. That is our regular giveaway.

Updating Kakdah's hanging garden.

Everytime Kakdah opens the door, her eyes are set to the right where the hanging garden is. Our crude and simple bamboo frame is still there, nonchalant about Kakdah gaze.
The plants are so used to her...

hanging on...

We keep hanging on somehow. Lies hidden inside each of us is the instinct to survive...... The pictures are just some faint indications......

Big red ants are here, Kerengga.

Kerengga

Ocoephylla Smaradgina
Weaver ants

I stumbled upon this in one of Kakdah's hanging pots at the porch. It was unusual because the nest was really small for these red kerengga or weaver ants. There were hardly 10 of them. I poured water slowly into the pot, trying not to disturb them.

It made me wonder why on earth they choose Kakdah's plant to set up up a new colony. These must be a splinter group from a bigger colony at Tanjung tree some 20 metres away. The council planted rows of Tanjung trees along the walkway... Are these ants chased out from their mainland, the tanjung tree or are they having stronger enterprising blood [do they have blood?] venturing out for greener pasture? Are they on practical assignment to sharpen their skills ?..huh.

I just grabbed  the camera ,
clicked a few shots and
got back in without saying a word.

A home-made bamboo screen

Kakdah complained about her hanging garden being too exposed to sunlight during second half of the day. We decided to put up a bamboo screen...... I just framed them up and tied with wire, did some paintwork and varnish. Now the screen can block half the intensity....

I think Kakdah is looking for something more decent ... hmmm... Oh well.......

Kakdah's hanging garden overflowing

It was Kakdah's idea that we should have a hanging garden at the porch. She went to the extent of vanishing the bamboo all by herself [Kakdah's hanging garden]. Now the plants had grown well and some are overflowing..... Everything hangs on bamboo... the upper and lower bamboo frame. There are orchids, money plants, ferns, etc...

The flowers of Kucai...

Flowers of veggies normally go unnoticed.... I dont know why, maybe we are so concerned with the harvest of the veggies... the flowers may not be as attractive as roses... but they are worth to look at... This is known as kucai locally or chives internationally. They are in two pots in Kakdah's hanging garden!!....

Kakdah's hanging garden

We used to have orchid's house in Pahang years ago. The place was interesting because it was cool with a little hill nearby setting the green tone ..... The name of the hill is Bukit Ridan. But now in Putrajaya, it is not as cool. Putting up a hanging garden is an attempt to add diversity within the plot.... where plants are very much at eye level, with no need for bending and reaching ...

The other day Kakdah practically by herself put up a nice little structure to hang her plants ..... She even varnished the bamboo to heighten the feeling ...... She hanged the small collection of potted plants high in the air ... At least the snails will find it difficult to get near..... Here we are...

parsley
We planted 5 of these on the ground last year
and Kakdah, depending on
her menu of the day will nib a stalk
from time to time.
One of the plants flowered and after a while,
there were numerous little baby parsley around it ....
So we shifted some into pots..

This is our first attempt to grow parsley in the air.
