For berries that look so black, it is a surprise to see juice appearing so different, so beautiful. Fashion designers could have used the same colour tone for their top models. On beauty, nature has a lot to offer.

Malabar spinach is quite a sight. The plant itself is rare here... everybody seems to be asking, what's that winding plant?.  I said Malabar Spinach... and they reacted "Spinach?".

We are planning to go commercial with chili. One hundred seedlings has been ordered from a local farmer. Kulai chili is the in thing  among chili growers now.  I have met a number of them, and interestingly they are more than willing to share the tricks of growing Kulai Chili. So I have to shift malabar spinach, stevia and eggplant somewhere else, to clear the rain proof house for Kulai Chili. Not long from now, in a matter of days...

To us malaysians, bunga is flower. The plural is bunga-bunga. There aren't many bunga-bunga in our little Tanah Merah garden. Always, flower is Kakdah's delight especially her hanging orchids. For today's post, I wish to explore flowers among the vegetables here. The most exciting understandably is lady's fingers / okra / bendi / kacang meo. I find the word kacang meo interesting because it is used only among Kelantanese. I will not venture into its origin. Kakdah jokingly mentioned about miang as the root word for meo, since her hands get very itchy whenever she got to harvest okra.

 Flowers or bunga-bunga are beautiful and treasured here, whereas in some other parts of the world, the word bunga bunga has different meaning which  Silvio Berlusconi (click here for more : Italy in suspense as 'bunga bunga' trial is poised to lift lid...) had made famous in  Italy last year,
and  in a century old  incident

Fertigation Weekly: Malabar Spinach steal the show.

I never thought Malabar spinach will grow here.  The name suggests its Indian origin  . In fact malabar spinach seeds arrived here as seeds gift,  as Wendy  from Rockville Maryland. celebrated her first blogiversary. I received it August last year. Some seeds had been tried in Putrajaya. Now is the turn for Malabar spinach....

There was a Bangladesh guy walking down our street one day. He simply couldn't resist ,  he stopped and talked to me. We grew that in Bangladesh, very nice he said. Then a week later, the plants added more leaves as automatic irrigation system fed them three times a day. One plant, being the healthiest, and tallest, showed what does it take to spurt  malabar spinach flower, which I had never seen in my entire life... They grow so healthy with fresh looking leaves, that in the end kakdah doesn't have the heart to cut for the kitchen.

Probably we just let them grow 

and flower this time around..
