An egg in the nest

The nest is very skeletal, nothing fancy about it, but it serves the purpose of holding an egg. It was one fine morning around 10 am, during recent Raya Haji in Sitiawan our hometown, that I saw a bird rushing out of a low bougainvillea tree. I peeped through and saw an egg in a nest.

Again the next day I checked who owned the egg.

I had to peep through branches to get clear shots. I guessed  the mother bird was about to lay another egg, because it didn't bother my intruding presence.  Who knows, the mother bird might just consider myself as another friendly visitor that would not take away it's precious egg.  I went round the tree to get shots from many angles. The bird behaved like a seasoned fashion model, very photogenic with eyes looking so aloof.

A brother in law had a peep too, and confirmed the bird had to be merbuk, a bird treasured by many for its beautiful melodious voice.

The wilderness of nature

 Nature has its own tempo, best seen in its wilderness, untouched, unhindered. I was traveling up towards Kelantan when nature in its wilderness attracted my attention. The camera was ever ready to click. It was around Bentong area, just before Petronas R&R.

 I don't know what the flower was,

it looked wild to me at least where it was blooming, 

definitely not planted by anyone there.

Rice leftover and the little birds

 

burung ciak

is the name of these little birds. They love the rice leftover of last night dinner.

The birds always stay in a group.

resting under ixora plant. The day is hot.

It's normal for Kakdah to throw away leftover rice  into the bin, tie up the plastic bag and place by the roadside for garbage lorry to take away. On hot days, Kakdah will put the rice on the ground, for the birds.

On that particular day,  Kakdah placed them on grass just beyond the eggplants. The little birds flew in and finished them off in no time. The birds are called burung ciak.

Gembala kerbau, another regular bird here, seldom come in group like burung ciak . I googled, and the information is as follows, Burung ciak is Tree Sparrow in English and the scientific name is Passer montanus.

The lamp post is a little bit to the right of our house. It brightens the pedestrian walkway as the sun goes down. But that very same lamp post is a favourite hangout for many birds, including this burung gembala kerbau . 

The time then was a little bit late . After a quick rest at the top, the bird shot up, and flew to her home somewhere. I managed to get just one aerial snap, but the picture is awkward and haunting.

The casual visitor, a bird

A hot sunny day. A bird came over. Kakdah was quick to capture through the kitchen window. The bird is locally known as gembala kerbau. Its cousin, burung tiong is a smarter one, because it can be trained to imitate words, just like parrots.... Gembala kerbau or Acridotheses tristis gets its name from the fact that they are really at ease crowding on water buffalo's back which is a normal sight in paddyfields! Gembala is shepherd and kerbau is buffalo .

The bird was sitting on the dry yard swing door, their color match coincidentaly. Was the bird doing tricks with camouflage?

Oh, the bird turned its back before flying off....
