Tanah Merah Agro Exhibition 2010

It was far too early for most, when we drove to Tanah Merah Agro Exhibition on Friday 24th of December 2010. Most stalls were not opened yet, but we just moved from stall to stall to see what's in there. It was comparatively small compared to MAHA exhibition recently held in Serdang, but I suppose it was enough to rekindle awareness about gardening, green, agriculture and business related to them.

Kakdah stopped at the fruit stall and brought home 2 pineapples and a bunch of banana. She forgot to check the variety for pineapple purchased, but banana was fairly easy to recognised. The banana was of Rastali variety, sweet and delicious.

There were boys playing football at the adjacent football field. Football must have created some kind of craze here after Kelantan emerged as the champion of Malaysian FA Cup early November this year.

There were men walking towards a small field nearby carrying colourful bird cages.
These were birds lovers.

The young man caught my attention because he was so absorbed with the bird competition. He was doing all he could to persuade his candik so keep on singing.

The man in red went back with the crowd, probably his candik had put up a tremendous show, but the young man went on supporting his bird untiringly.

We didn't wait to see who emerged as champion, Two pineapples and a bunch of banana were the only thing Kakdah brought home.  Definitely, candik competetion was the highlight of the exhibition at least for both us.

Putrajaya Floria 2010 ~ a run through

It was a quick run through, or rather a  brief walk through. I was quite busy lately, otherwise we could have visited the flower exhibition much earlier. Normally the first day is the best where flowers and plants on display is fresh and healthy. We went in  on the second  last day, around 10.30 am, and back by 12.00 noon. One and a half hour is brief by Kakdah's standard.  It was quite a repeat of last year show but still the crowd was quite big.


Something caught my attention, huh, a compost machine. With the price of a thousand dollar, it got me thinking when will the investment break even...... Our crude compost technique, open heap of composting material, only deals with garden waste.  Kitchen waste invariably will end up in garbage bin to be taken away by garbage lorry. What a waste... haha. Now with compost machine finding its way into houses, Kitchen waste will not be wasted ... But the price!!..

FLORIA 2010 , Putrajaya Flower & Garden Festival 2010 is open from 10th to 18th July 2010. We were not lavish this time. Three bags of organic soil, seeds (kale, celery and petola) and gardening utensils ( small scoop and fork) found their way to our little vegetable garden. Small sum, just 20 ringgit Malaysia. I didn't take many photographs of plants and flowers on show. Just a few to mark the occasion. However, Autumn Belle of My nice garden did a serial on the show ( click here  )

and asked me to click a few.
We have purple variety in a container, 
and the blooms keep coming back on a continuous basis.

Celebration of colours, FLORIA2009 Putrajaya (no 4) - youngsters, adults of the future.

FLORIA2009 PUTRAJAYA

Held over a week and Sunday 9th August is the last day.

Moms will be happy looking at flowers,
kids will rush for ice cream and
I am not too sure what's going on in Dad's mind.
But these children and youngsters
are the adults of the future
to shape the country and
to mix the right blend
for a colorful Malaysia.

The way they organise this exhibition,
due consideration has been given to make it memorable for
Moms,
Dads,
youngsters
and
the little ones.

Flower exhibition FLORIA2009 Putrajaya (no 3) - orchids

FLORIA2009 Putrajaya. Thursday 6th of August 2009, both of us went there. It was a weekday, therefore not many people around. I paste orchids for this post. I took the day off, first to Immigration Department for passport and visa, then we turned around and stop at FLORIA2009 for a couple hours before going home.

Such a display of orchids! I can only snap and show a few here....
