An egg in the nest

The nest is very skeletal, nothing fancy about it, but it serves the purpose of holding an egg. It was one fine morning around 10 am, during recent Raya Haji in Sitiawan our hometown, that I saw a bird rushing out of a low bougainvillea tree. I peeped through and saw an egg in a nest.

Again the next day I checked who owned the egg.

I had to peep through branches to get clear shots. I guessed  the mother bird was about to lay another egg, because it didn't bother my intruding presence.  Who knows, the mother bird might just consider myself as another friendly visitor that would not take away it's precious egg.  I went round the tree to get shots from many angles. The bird behaved like a seasoned fashion model, very photogenic with eyes looking so aloof.

A brother in law had a peep too, and confirmed the bird had to be merbuk, a bird treasured by many for its beautiful melodious voice.

The space to breath in rural setting.

Those who grew up in villages can be very defensive and nostalgic at the same time on mere mention of rural setting. It may not totally out of pure love towards countryside, but I suspect more for the sense of childhood familiarity. Then some of us travel far and settle down in urban areas. Creating what we love, to rekindle the childhood mood is the most sensible thing to do, thus having gardens, or at least having potted plants on the 24th story luxury condominium.

Lands are measured in acres and time is allowed to tick by the hour. That happens in rural setting. But in cosmopolitan environment, lands are accurately measured in square foot and time rushes in seconds. It is the vastness of space that allows nature to thrive, and green to continue being green. Then it is a pleasure to see time as just day or night. It is then easier to breath.....

when everywhere is painted green including the fruits

baby rambutans

pandan

the luxury of space for pandan to grow wild.

bamboo with space to grow and breath

composting is nothing new

cotton, pure and fluffy.

Scrutinizing buah putat in Sitiawan.

This tree never fails to amaze me. A medium sized tree which seldom finds its way in gardens. But mother in law maintains a tree at the end of her plot far away from real happenings. The fruits hang down gracefully, always with shiny and fresh look. Their flowers resemble jambu air with their long strands....Botanically known as Barringtonia spp

I did a post sometime ago about this tree and it deserve a re-entry.

A view I enjoy most, Sitiawan

a rural view, Sitiawan.

The view is on the right side of mother in law's house. A few coconut trees are towering high above everything else. There are mango trees, rambutan and kedondong trees squeezed in between. And this is the best rural view which is very haunting and keep pulling kakdah back to her home town, Sitiawan. It is normal too, to see a few electrical and telephone lines hanging from pole to pole. A true tropical and rural feel........

A visit to Sitiawan is rejuvenating indeed.

Geese antics, Sitiawan.

We went back home to Sitiawan again over the weekend. Primarily, it was for the wedding of Kakdah's cousin. It is not the wedding itself that will feature here for today's post, but the antics of four geese locally known as angsa, right at the front of mother in law's house.

Geese can be so elaborate with their necks, bending and stretching at will, to groom and fluff their feathers. They were so absorbed with their morning chores.

A garden in Sitiawan: the fruits

rambutan,

ciku,

 coconuts,

baby jambu air,

little mango,
mempelam telur,

location: Kakdah's Mom garden, Sitiawan, Perak

Living in rural area, where you have an acre of land to play around, having these fruit trees is most natural. I cant even think about these trees where I am staying now. So, vegetable garden is the most appropriate in my case....

Going back to Kakdah's home town is a real retreat.... playing with nature, appreciating fruiting trees and of course, a chance to pluck and eat fruits for free!!!

A garden in sitiawan: cotton?

Everybody knows about cotton being grown in hot regions. Malaysia is never known as a place for cotton. There is a plant at the back of Mother in Law's house in Sitiawan. Even Kakdah herself refers to this plant as cotton.  These are collected, and will make soft and comfy pillow!!.The ripening fruits is so fluffy and wooly, that even if it is not cotton, it is almost cotton.. haha.

A garden in Sitiawan; on flowers

Kakdah's mother has quite a collection of flowering plants. I managed to take a few photographs
during the recent trip to her home town, Sitiawan, Perak.
