White Spiral Ginger at Seri Iskandar Home

The mother plant was from Banting Selangor. The cuttings taken had produced new shoots and grew into beautiful and healthy colony in our other home in Seri Iskandar. The plants must have found a nice habitat to grow to such health. Their position received little sunlight, being blocked by other plants and the house itself. They fend themselves against heat and drought, feed on occasional raindrops and dew. I came back only once a month to see what's going on, and the white papery flowers are sweet looking and very welcoming.

So lengkuas has to be dug out and cut.

lengkuas rhizome in the soil

a knife to dig and cut

so fresh

lemon grass

all in

Call it whatever we like. Lengkuas, galanga, blue ginger, or  lam keong . It tastes the same... citrusy, earthy aroma with a hint of pine and soap in the flavour.

That day..., sunday morning...., Kakdah required lengkuas and serai for her rare and special menu. The boys were all home. They knew, Kakdah will always come up with her best menu. So I had to step into the garden and dug  and cut a little bit of the rhizome of lengkuas. The cut piece is a shoot and the flesh is watery and delicious looking. She needs serai or lemon grass as well......
