Kamunting, a wild plant.

kamunting
pink and white flowers

location:
50 meters from Kakyah's house, my younger sister.
Pantai Remis, Perak.

Kamunting.

A place in Taiping Perak is named after this plant. Kamunting. The plant continues to stay wild and has never find a home in anybody's garden that I know of.  It really strikes my childhood memories, this plant. The ripening berries are so sweet and nice, and it is normal for us to meander a little bit on the way home from school... just for a pocketful of kamunting berries.

The place I grew up, is really sandy. Kamunting seem to love sandy habitat. They have the habit of making dense fibrous roots , as a support. Old roots decompose and new roots come out... So in fact the plant is making the best out of the sandy environment, creating their own healthy environment to thrive on... A real survivor...

They produce lovely flowers... almost similar to senduduk. But I notice two different set of flowers, the white and the light purple. I don't know, but I guess one is male and the other is female... Even the stigma is different in both flowers,  Or they start off being white and develop into pink a while later... Huh.. When I was young, the different flowers never attract my attention as much as the lovely and juicy berries... haha.

The flowering little weeds

Wild weeds
tamed and domesticated for almost 2 years now..

I try giving them some shape by pruning,
and they don't seem to mind or feel hurt,
and just keep growing
and flowering
non stop.

this last shot was taken by Adik, our youngest son.
He quickly drew in the lense
while pressing the shutter to give such explosive look.
Oh well.., at his age, the speed of mind
and fingers is an advantage.

Kakdah's Mom came to our place last month. She toured around our little garden. She rushed towards these little flowers and asked "you really keep these?".... Understandably, these are weeds easily found anywhere and has no market value. But we treasure these weeds, as any other exotic plants!! They are so independent, requiring minimal care, and never cry for attention!

Dont ask the name. I don't know.
They are our purplish little wild weeds.

Basil showing off against the weeds

As they mature basil flowers turn dark brown. The seed pods are placed at regular interval and resembles pagoda.... As we have replacements ready, i.e. the second generations, I just want to make a casual comparison with weeds before the original Basil passes its prime and die off..

Both flowers are very showy with long and slender stalk ......

the original basil
the mother, or the first generation basil in our garden.

I still cant figure out its name yet....

and of course
the second generation basils and weeds

Roadside weeds caught my eyes.

These blooms caught my attention as we travelled back from Gerik to Putrajaya. I stopped the car and snapped these. Kakdah just sat and looked. Not that she wasnt interested, it was fairly hot.....

They are nice looking and sweet in their own right.... And somehow, weeds which grow wild has no indication of being disturbed by insects and pests. Possibly insects has so many to choose, whereas in our little garden, they dont have much choice, so must so, the gardeners and insects are chasing after the same thing, The Veggies.
