Sorghum circle - for continuous supply and a rare total solar eclipse

I was mentioning about sorghum grown in 3 batches each at an interval of one month, in the previous post.  Weather here is sliding towards wetter period, but it is generally hot with temperature hovering around 90 degree Fahrenheit.  It was a rare total solar eclipse yesterday as the Moon passed between the earth and the sun. It happened as I was driving to the office in the morning, and indeed the feeling was rather eerie....... However the phenomena couldn't bring down the temperature, as it remained hot right to sunset.

Backyard Gardening in Putrajaya - an approach.

It was Tuesday morning, and the sun was bright. I always find morning photos as fresh, sweet and soothing, with long shadow as the sun peeps through the roof  and the trees.  Even plants and grass will look greener. I suppose plants, vegetables, leaves and flowers just woke up from a long sleep. They look fresh as any babies early in the morning. The time was 8.15 am.

The structural skeleton of our backyard garden is formed by a row of 5 one-year-old Leucaena leucocephla (petai belalang) and a cluster of three banana plants. These two species of plant or tree will stand higher than the rest, providing shade and shelter to smaller vegetables and plants spread out in clusters around the garden.  A bit to the left, which is not visible in this photograph are two papaya plants which are heavy with fruits.

Its a view from the cloth lines at the far back of our garden. Right in the centre is our sorghum circle, Its like 3 sisters cluster,  because the three batches are grown at an interval of one month. The approach will allow continuous supply of sorghum grains.

Taman Wetland Putrajaya - jog and shoot.

I changed jogging route last weekend. It's Taman Wetland Putrajaya, 15km from home,  alone, and Kakdah preferred to stay at home. The speed I executed would not fit the term jogging. I suppose it was much closer to brisk walking.... haha.

When I thought I had enough, I got back to the car,  took out my darling Nikon and went shooting spree.... and there were little things that captured my attention.

I wish I can put more pictures to summarize the extent of our  little vegetable gardening experience in Putrajaya. I can still click at the archives to see them, and you too dear readers. If my posts help some of you in gardening then I feel so happy. For me these are records over the many months of weeding, germinating, potting, planting,  fertilizing, watering and harvesting. We in fact learn a lot through interactive gardening with eco-system, which is not only about the plants. The soil, the organic matter, the fertilizer, water, weather, snails, slugs, the butterflies, the pests and the sun are as important.

I have been here in Tanah Merah, Kelantan for a week. Time is needed to get things organised in the new place; house, work and the family. So for now, gardening ranks quite low in the priority list , until there is a call from the new garden, crying for attention.

Putrajaya Botanical Garden: When the feel is high

Nature is all about biodiversity. Putrajaya Botanical Garden recreate the feel of a forest and allow some trees to be on its own so that visitors can really view and appreciate. So some trees grow tall unhindered and we can look with awe. I pick 3 photographs taken by Adik on his recent visit to Putrajaya Botanical Garden to show what height really means to trees. The first photo really define "high" in its truest sense.... and who can deny...

Kaklong, my eldest sister came down to Putrajaya last week with the rest of her family. She insisted on seeing Putrajaya Botanical Garden with her own eyes. Yeop and Adik drove the whole group around 5.30pm. I didn't join the excursion, but as I flick through the photographs captured by Adik, i thought some photos are defining the feeling of being dense...

He just arrived, melting with the heat, beaming with excitement .   Let him rest for a while first, catching up with updates on adventure he has gone through in Sweden with Gittan [WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BILBO: Lund] .  The snow in Sweden should be thinning by now. I am not too sure if Dirt Princess's roses grow well after staying dormant for weeks in  The South [ What's Going On ] .

He must be very brave indeed, coming here to a far away land, on his own without any chaperon.

Putrajaya, Malaysia is just a place to warm him up a little bit.... He had been smiling all day long with infectious smile, almost perpetual. I am now thinking where to begin for the garden walkabout.
