fungi feasting on old tree trunk

There was this huge pokok payung indonesia  (Hura Crepitans)  on the right side of our house.  I remembered having to sweep and collect old leaves everyday which was very good for compost pile. The tree was chopped down, when the Putrajaya Holdings decided that it had grown too tall and too big for safety reasons.

A year later, the decaying tree stump plays host to the world of fungi, plants and other living creatures.

Fungi has a world of itself.  Since fungi cannot make its food from sunlight, water and carbon dioxide as plants do, they must take in food from other organism. Decaying trees are the most common place to look for fungi.

X- rated mushrooms

I just post the photographs here... without further elaborations. These are the leftover photos from Banding Trip. Cheers..... ~ bangchik

awkward-looking
a friend cautioned me about posting this,
to him this is a bit too much because "..............."
But to me there is no harm in understanding nature, flora and fauna.

MUSHROOM ~ our little project.

It is almost a year now, that we dont buy mushrooms anymore. It is always here, at a little corner of our semi-detached home in Putrajaya, Malaysia. I stack them, the bottles or media on a shoe rack. These bottles need cool environment, therefore we spray them with water twice a day. Once the bottles are opened, mushrooms will shoot out within five days. Pluck them out, close the bottles for 10 days and open again for the next harvest. Each bottle will last for 5 to 6 harvests, after which we can dump them and will decompose. The contents are mainly rubber tree sawdust!... At the moment there are 20 such bottles at home. A bottle costs RM1.50. Hmmm..... Interested?

That mushroom is locally known as cendawan tiram kelabu. Other sites will explain this mushroom in greater detail... (click>) Cendawan Tiram Kelabu, or this Cendawan915

The three perias are from our little garden,
a section we call Batas Kitchen.
It is less than a meter away from the kitchen.
