Kaklong [my eldest sister in Gerik] planted three chilly plants at her backyard. She mentioned about using fish wash as her frequent fertilizer. At her place, it sounds tolerable because her nearest neighbor is quite a distance away, so the smell from fish wash will never post a real nuisance. We cant do the same here, in our urban dwelling in Putrajaya!
I love the look, the color and health state of the plant and the ripening chillies. I thought these are gorgeous.

Mmmm -- they look yummy! I have spent so much time blogging about my tomatoes. This inspires me to do a post on how my peppers are coming along!
ReplyDeleteThey look great. I've heard the fish fertilizer is VERY smelly!
ReplyDeleteThey look hot.

As Joanne said.., they look HOT!!... I heard about mexican chilli, for just a little bite, everything from the tongue to the head and to the toes, its chilli HOT for the whole day....
But tomato is always a good topic, janet... I love the feel and the smell of their leaves. Of course I love tomatoes more..
Then again, fish wash is always smelly for a couple days. Over here in Malaysia, flies will hover around within minutes, and they may leave eggs as well.
Cheers Janet, Kim/Victoria and Joanne,

I use fish fertilizer as well on my peppers. Works great. Doesn't smell too bad.

ReplyDeleteThanks, so fish fertilizer has been used for chillies by many...., some out there may want to consider fish wash/fertilizer as an alternative.

I guess you have to balance the stinky smell against the great results. I just depends how much you want prefect chillies! Your poor neighbours though :) Maybe if you shared the crop out you wouldn't be hated for the smell, hehehe

ReplyDeleteWe do give away veggies from time to time .... and even that there is no guarantee they will not hate us for stinky fertiliser and ugly looking compost pile... haha.
Cheers,

I don't grow chilli peppers myself as we don't eat many, but I love the look of the plant. I grow sweet peppers and already have some fruits forming.

ReplyDeleteWe consumed alot of chilli... so we grow them. Never heard of sweet peppers, msybe an update in your blog may persuade us to grow them soon!!...

People here often use blood and bone, which has a smell most people don't like, although I don't mind it. I've seen ornamental chilis in nurseries, although I don't know why people bother when they can grow edible ones.

ReplyDeleteI dont know if anyone use blood here... I just throw chicken bones ocassionally into compost pile... I know bones will not decompose so quick, but they improve the soil texture to a certain degree... Ornamental chilis?... yellow, pink, white and even purple!!.. some would just love to see them..
